Home Birth
Being a Certified Professional Midwife, I keep current certifications in newborn resuscitation and first aid CPR. I also have additional training in birth emergency skills through BEST, and for breech birth, twin birth, and VBAC's. About a third of my mamas choose to use water for the labor or the birth.
Phone contact is encouraged leading up to labor, and midwifery services are provided when and as needed/wanted. In the case of unavailability, a backup should be readily accessible and this is discussed prior to labor.
In the case of an emergency that goes beyond midwifery skills, hospital transport may take place. This is also part of the prenatal discussion and preparation, though it is seldom necessary. Support is continued and care is followed through even after hospital discharge.
Immediate skin-to-skin, delayed cord clamping and cutting, and early initiation of breastfeeding are both promoted and protected under our care as this has a direct coloration with lowering post-birth trauma and postpartum depression as well as newborn and child survival and development.
It is our goal that every baby enters the world in a gentle and love-filled atmosphere without the clamor of trauma and fear.
