FAQ
How far do you drive?
I drive up to 2 hours from my home in Shreve, depending on due date availability.
Do you come out to the home for checkups?
Yes, I do a lot of checkups in the home, depending on how it works out with scheduling and all. If you are able to make the drive, sometimes that is best. If so, I do at least one home visit before the birth.
What do you charge to come out to the house?
I charge gas money, basically, starting at $25 per trip.
Do you work alone or are you in a practice that includes more than one Midwife?
I have a solo practice. I often will have another midwife or student along for the birth, though. But all the care is through Touch of Love Midwifery care, which is just me.
What if something goes wrong? What would you do?
This is why I am here! If birth was always uncomplicated, midwives wouldn't be needed! I am trained for birth emergencies including hemorrhage, newborn resuscitation, shoulder dystocia, breech birth, and so on. If something goes beyond home birth skills, we take it to the hospital. As a midwife, I guard the normal; I am always watching for deviations from the normal and am ready to act when appropriate.
Do you do water birth?
Yes, about 30% of my clientele choose water to labor and birth in. Water birth comes with both pros and cons. We will discuss this more if you are interested.
Do you accept VBAC?
Yes, I have helped a number of Mamas have successful VBACs with having had up to 4 previous Cesareans. There may be times that a VBAC birth is contra-indicated as there is a lot more to navigate in planning a VBAC birth.
Can I have my children or other important people there with me at the time of birth?
Yes, as long as you can feel supported and relaxed. What we don't want is labor to be hindered because of stress of a negative presence in the room.
Do you accept insurance.
No, though there are some health shares/insurance companies that will help cover home birth. Check with your company about this.
