Home Birth
Being a Certified Professional Midwife, I keep current certifications in newborn resuscitation and first aid CPR. I also have additional training in birth emergency skills through BEST, for breech birth, twin birth, VBAC's and phlebotomy/suturing. About a third of my mamas choose to use water for the labor or the birth.
Phone contact is encouraged leading up to labor, and birth services are provided as indicated. In the case of unavailability (either attending another birth or a natural disaster/accident), a backup Midwife should be readily accessible. This is planned prior to labor.
In the case of an emergency that goes beyond midwifery skills, hospital transport may take place. This is also part of the prenatal discussion and preparation, though it is seldom necessary. Support is continued and care is followed through even after hospital discharge.
Immediate skin-to-skin, delayed cord clamping and cutting, early initiation of breastfeeding and honoring the golden hour are all promoted and protected under Dorothy's care. This is recognized to have a direct coloration with lowering post-birth trauma and postpartum depression as well as newborn and child survival and development.
It is our goal that every baby enters the world in a gentle, safe and love-filled atmosphere without the clamor of unnecessary trauma and fear.
