Prenatal Care

Comprehensive prenatal care includes an initial visit with intake health history and information packet, discussion and information with plan of care. After the initial visit, you are seen periodically, usually every month until we get closer to the birth. We will meet a little more frequently as we approach the birth to keep a closer eye on mama and baby.

What does a prenatal visit look like? A prenatal visit includes nutritional and life-style counseling, childbirth education, answering questions, routine exams/tests, and checking in on baby. Blood work, ultrasounds and other tests are optional, but may be recommended in certain cases.

Some of the points covered during care include:

  • Continuity of Care: as should be a midwife's default as traditionally done, walking with women from birth to death, through all of life's cycles. Even if transport is necessary, care is followed through.
  • Full Disclosure and Informed Consent: this is an important aspect of midwifery care, because midwifery is "with woman", not controlling women's decisions through routine procedures or scare tactics to fit the system. You will receive a written agreement that you will sign after reading and understanding the form, and having the opportunity to ask questions.
  • Nutritional and Lifestyle Counseling: what we eat and the way we live can heavily weigh on the outcome of the birth. We discuss these things regularly for optimal outcome.
  • Childbirth Education: both in literature, online, and potentially in private classes.
  • Phone support or consultation: for my mama's, I encourage contact by text or call at anytime. Most non-emergent business occurs during regular business hours.
  • On-the-Go Store of Natural Supplements and Teas: I keep a stash of natural supplements on hand for resale, so don't hesitate to ask! Supplements are high-quality and naturally derived. I try to carry those things that are hard to find just anywhere.
  • Blood work: if there is a need to look deeper, this is a good choice. Blood work is charged per test. Saliva tests are also an option. Can also draw for your doctor if paying out-of-pocket as a more affordable way to go.
  • Point of Care Ultrasound: basic bedside ultrasound for checking in on things or for dating pregnancy if indicated.
